Raymond-Marie Murray was born on May 20th 1949, in a little town near « Clermont”, which is surrounded by the majestic scenery of “Charlevoix County ». He spent the better part of his childhood in this region, which is a source of inspiration for a great number of artists. Nature’s richness, majestic mountains, the Saguenay and the St-Lawrence are all elements in this artist’s life.
During his childhood, he was befriended by an eccentric painter also living in Clermont. Raymond sometimes visited him to talk and to see his paintings. These visits often took place without his parents knowledge. This individual was Mr Robert Cauchon. Some of his paintings can be seen at the “Charlevoix Museum” in La Malbaie, Québec.
Later, Raymond-M. Murray considered studying in the field of art, but changed his mind and decided to study civil engineering. After his studies in Quebec City, this profession led him to travel and visit “La Gaspésie”, “The Magdalen Islands”, “La Côte Nord” and “La Basse Côte Nord”. On each occasion he sketched and painted. Later he obtained a degree in administration from the University of Quebec, in Rimouski.
At the age of 25, he established himself in the lower St-Lawrence, in Rimouski. There, Raymond-M. Murray met a painter from the region whose pseudonym is “Basque” with whom he attended some workshops.
He executed numerous sketches and labours towards a more appropriate technique, which he developed little by little. He has had several exhibitions, alone and as part of a group, throughout Quebec.
In 1992, he had an exhibition at “La Galerie Coup d’Oeil”, in Rimouski. Following this, he altered his workshop and opened his own art gallery at his home, in Pointe-au-Père.
In 1993, an exhibition at “La galerie Anima G”, in the G complex in Quebec, allowed him world wide exposure.
In 1994, an exhibition at “La maison de la culture” in Rivière-du-Loup, featured many paintings showing life in Quebec.
In 1995, he participated at the “Salon des galeries d’art du Québec” at “Place Bonaventure”, in Montreal.
In 1995 and 1996, his painting were often the result of personal analysis. They portrayed movement, still life deception, real and unreal, colours. anguish and humour. Everything is in the picture. The quality of his work is greater and more impressive among his more recent work. Paintings like « La pose du vautour », « Bobo la vie », « Le jeu de la vie » and « Le journal du vieux loup » best indicate the result on his research and experiences.
In 1997, his production was very weak. Nevertheless he offered some paintings during the fall at “La Galerie Coup d’Oeil” in Rimouski. Many of the works shown were paintings called back from clients, which had never been seen by the public.
In December 1998 and January 1999, his work was covered by the TVA and LCN networks. His pictures have been reproduced and gone all around the world.
In 1999, he was invited to participate at “Quatre arpents de fleuve à repeindre” in Rivière-du-Loup and in 2000 at “Artistes en fêtes” in Sainte-Flavie.
In 2001, he had an exhibition at « La galerie du vieux presbytère de Sainte-Flavie », in Sainte-Flavie.
In 2005 and 2006, he had paticipated at “Artistes en fêtes” in Sainte-Flavie.
In 2006, he was invited to participate at “Symposium de peinture de Kamouraska” : first prize for the official picture for the “Symposium” in 2007.
Raymond-M. Murray wants to gather from deep in his soul and as to profoundly convey his message. The sensation imparted to the public may be an endearment, a gentle, imprint or invasive scar the life of the public.
And so on, until 2023.
Thank you Raymond-Marie for your wonderful creative work.
